Which C.S. Lewis fantasy series begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

The story behind the answer

The Chronicles of Narnia is the C.S. Lewis fantasy series that begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Lewis’s seven-book series is set largely in the world of Narnia, where talking animals, mythical beings, children from Earth, and the lion Aslan are central figures. The books were published between 1950 and 1956, although their internal chronology differs from publication order.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first Narnia book published, appearing in 1950. It introduces the Pevensie children, who enter Narnia through a wardrobe and find the land under the rule of the White Witch. Later books explore different periods of Narnian history and different groups of characters.

A frequent mix-up concerns reading order. Some editions number The Magician’s Nephew first because it describes earlier events in Narnia’s history, but publication order starts with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
