Which C.S. Lewis book was published in 1950 as the first Chronicle of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was published in 1950 as the first Chronicle of Narnia.

The novel introduces the Pevensie children—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy—and their entrance into Narnia through a wardrobe. Lucy is the first of the siblings to discover the other world, where the White Witch has imposed a perpetual winter.

Although it was the first Narnia book published, it is sometimes read as the second volume in chronological story order. The Magician’s Nephew, published later, is set earlier in Narnian history and describes the world’s creation. Lewis’s publisher originally released the books in publication order.

The 1950 novel became the best-known entry in the series and has been adapted for radio, stage, television, and film. Its title refers to Aslan, the White Witch, and the magical passageway that connects the children’s world with Narnia.
