Which C.S. Lewis book was adapted into the 2005 film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

The story behind the answer

The 2005 film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was adapted from C.S. Lewis’s novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Lewis published the book in 1950. It follows the four Pevensie children—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy—after Lucy discovers a passage into the magical land of Narnia through a wardrobe. The novel established many of the series’ central locations, characters, and conflicts.

The film, directed by Andrew Adamson, was released in 2005 and brought the story to a new generation of viewers. It was followed by film adaptations of Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Publication order and chronological story order are sometimes confused. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first Narnia book published, while The Magician’s Nephew is set earliest in the fictional history of Narnia.
