Which C.S. Lewis book introduced the fictional land of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe introduced readers to the fictional land of Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s 1950 children’s novel.

The story follows four Pevensie children—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy—who enter Narnia through a wardrobe. There they encounter the White Witch, whose rule has brought a magical winter, and Aslan, the great lion who opposes her.

Although The Magician’s Nephew is earlier in Narnian chronology and explains the world’s creation, it was published later, in 1955. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first Narnia book published.

The novel became the opening volume in many reading orders and remains the best-known entry point to The Chronicles of Narnia. Its film adaptations include a 2005 feature directed by Andrew Adamson.
