Which cryptocurrency was created from a hard fork of Bitcoin in August 2017?
Answer
Bitcoin Cash
Answer
Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash was created from a hard fork of Bitcoin on 1 August 2017.
The split grew out of a long-running debate over how Bitcoin should scale. Bitcoin Cash supporters favored increasing the block-size limit so more transactions could fit directly into each block, while Bitcoin’s main chain adopted Segregated Witness and later-layer solutions as part of its scaling path.
At the fork, Bitcoin Cash shared Bitcoin’s transaction history through the split point, creating a separate blockchain with its own rules and the ticker BCH. People holding bitcoin at the time could generally claim an equivalent amount of Bitcoin Cash, although using such coins safely required wallet and replay-protection precautions.
Bitcoin Cash is often confused with Bitcoin SV and Bitcoin Gold. Bitcoin Gold split from Bitcoin in October 2017, while Bitcoin SV later split from Bitcoin Cash in November 2018. Litecoin is older than Bitcoin Cash and was not created by this August 2017 Bitcoin hard fork.
