Aslan is the ruler of Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.
Aslan is a talking lion who appears throughout the seven Narnia books. He is the creator of Narnia, its highest authority, and a central figure in the series’ moral and spiritual structure. The name is derived from the Turkish word for “lion.”
His most prominent role is in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where he returns to Narnia during its conflict with the White Witch. He sacrifices himself for Edmund Pevensie, then returns to life, an episode widely discussed for its Christian symbolism.
Aslan is not the same character as King Caspian, who rules Narnia during a later period, or Tumnus, the faun who first meets Lucy. Jadis, the White Witch, is his principal enemy in the first published Narnia book. Aslan’s appearances link the separate stories into one history.
