Answer
Royal Liverpool Golf Club
Answer
Royal Liverpool Golf Club
Arnaud Massy's 1907 Open win was hosted by Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
The championship was played at Royal Liverpool's links in Hoylake, England, on 20 and 21 June 1907. Massy completed the four-round event in 312 strokes, beating J.H. Taylor by two. The course, commonly known as Hoylake, was already an established Open venue: it had first hosted the championship in 1897.
Royal Liverpool was one of the important additions to the Open rota beyond its original Scottish venues. Prestwick, Muirfield and Royal St George's were also historic hosts, but none was the location of Massy's breakthrough. Muirfield had staged the event in 1906 and would host it again in 1912, while Royal St George's hosted the 1904 Open.
The 1907 championship was significant beyond its venue. It was the first Open to use qualifying, introduced because of the large entry. Massy led his qualifying section and then held off a powerful British field, giving Royal Liverpool a place in the story of the first overseas winner.
