Answer
United States
Answer
United States
The United States won the inaugural women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991.
The tournament was held in Wales from 6 to 14 April 1991, although it was not officially sanctioned by the International Rugby Board at the time. Twelve teams participated, and the United States defeated England 19–6 in the final at Cardiff Arms Park.
The victory established the United States as the first women’s world champion in rugby union. England’s runners-up finish began a long record of success in the competition, while New Zealand did not enter the tournament.
The event is sometimes called the first Women’s Rugby World Cup even though its official recognition came later. World Rugby subsequently acknowledged the tournament as part of the competition’s official history.
