Which country won the 2016 Overwatch World Cup?

South Korea won the 2016 Overwatch World Cup.

The South Korean team defeated Russia 2–0 in the grand final at BlizzCon in Anaheim, California. This was the first Overwatch World Cup, organized by Blizzard before the Overwatch League began in 2018.

South Korea’s lineup included prominent players such as Miro, EscA, Zunba, Ryujehong, ArHaN and Tobi. The team’s coordinated use of heroes such as Winston and Lucio became one of the tournament’s defining strategic features. South Korea also won the next two Overwatch World Cups, creating a three-title opening streak.

The competition was a national-team event, unlike the Overwatch League, which used city-branded professional franchises. The 2016 tournament should also not be confused with the 2016 Overwatch Open, a separate competition with different teams and qualification rules.
