Ireland wins the Quidditch World Cup shown in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The tournament appears near the beginning of the 2005 film, before the story moves to the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts. Ireland defeats Bulgaria in the final, but Bulgarian Seeker Viktor Krum catches the Golden Snitch. Because Ireland has built a large lead in points, it still wins the match.
This result demonstrates an important Quidditch rule: catching the Snitch ends the game and awards 150 points, but it does not automatically determine the winner. Krum’s decision helps explain why Bulgaria loses despite his successful catch.
The film uses the World Cup as a major international wizarding event and introduces Krum before he arrives at Hogwarts as a Triwizard champion. Mike Newell directed the film.
