Which country singer was known as the “Texas Troubadour”?

The story behind the answer

Ernest Tubb was known as the “Texas Troubadour.”

Tubb was born in Crisp, Texas, in 1914 and became one of the most influential honky-tonk singers of the 1940s and 1950s. His clear, conversational vocal delivery and electric-guitar-based band sound helped define the style.

His breakthrough recording was “Walking the Floor Over You,” released in 1941. The song became a country standard and helped establish the commercial model for honky-tonk music. Tubb also founded the Ernest Tubb Record Shop and hosted the long-running Midnight Jamboree radio program.

The nickname is sometimes confused with other regional titles. Eddy Arnold was the “Tennessee Plowboy,” while Jimmie Rodgers was widely called the “Singing Brakeman.”
