Roy Clark hosted the long-running television program Hee Haw from 1969 to 1992. The syndicated country variety show combined musical performances with rural-themed comedy sketches, recurring characters, and a deliberately homespun style. Clark served as its principal host for the program’s entire original run.
Clark was also a highly accomplished instrumentalist. He played guitar, banjo, and several other instruments, and his television performances helped introduce country music and its musicians to a broad American audience. He often shared hosting duties and musical segments with Buck Owens, who was another central figure on Hee Haw.
Hee Haw premiered in 1969 and continued in syndication after leaving the main network schedule. Although its humor was built around rural stereotypes, the show became an important television showcase for country performers and remained associated with Clark throughout his career.
