Germany produced the 2026 US Open men’s singles champion, its first since 1989.
Alexander Zverev became the first German man to win the US Open men’s singles title since 1989. He defeated American Ben Shelton 6–3, 7–6(2), 5–7, 6–2 in the 2026 final.
The earlier German champion was Boris Becker, who won the US Open in 1989. Zverev’s victory therefore ended a 37-year gap between German men’s singles championships at the tournament.
Zverev’s title was his second major championship. He also became the first German winner in New York during the modern period since Becker’s triumph, giving the result a clear historical significance beyond the individual final.
The match was played on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Shelton was the runner-up, while Frances Tiafoe and Karen Khachanov were the other men’s singles semifinalists.
