Which country is the world’s largest island nation by total area?
Answer
Indonesia
Answer
Indonesia
Indonesia is the world’s largest island nation by total area.
The country consists of more than 17,000 islands spread between the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its territory covers roughly 1.9 million square kilometres, making it much larger than other island countries such as Japan, the Philippines, and Madagascar.
Indonesia is sometimes confused with Australia, which is also an island continent but is generally classified as a continent as well as a country. Indonesia’s islands include Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, and New Guinea’s western half. Jakarta has long been the capital, while Nusantara is being developed as a new capital.
