Which country is the largest in South America that does not border the Pacific Ocean?

The story behind the answer

Brazil is the largest South American country that does not border the Pacific Ocean.

Brazil covers about 8.52 million square kilometres and has an extensive Atlantic coastline, but no Pacific coastline. Its eastern position gives it access to the Atlantic while the Andes and neighboring countries separate it from the Pacific shore.

South America’s Pacific coastline is held by Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname also lack Pacific coastlines, but each has a smaller total area than Brazil.

The wording matters because Brazil is not landlocked: it has one of the longest coastlines in the world. It also borders the Atlantic Ocean along nearly the entire eastern side of the continent.
