Russia is the largest country with a coastline on the Black Sea.
Russia’s Black Sea coast lies mainly along the eastern shore, in the Krasnodar Krai region, and includes the major port of Novorossiysk. Russia is larger by total area than every other Black Sea littoral state.
The Black Sea is bordered by six countries: Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Georgia. It connects to the Mediterranean through the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles, making it an important route between eastern Europe and the wider Mediterranean region.
Turkey has the longest Black Sea coastline, which can cause confusion with the area-based question. Ukraine also has a large coast, while Bulgaria, Georgia, and Romania are smaller. Russia’s Black Sea coastline is only one part of its much larger coastline, which also reaches the Arctic and Pacific oceans.
