Which country is the largest bordering Lake Tanganyika by total area?
Answer
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Answer
Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the largest country bordering Lake Tanganyika by total area.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, commonly abbreviated as the DRC, covers about 2.34 million square kilometres. Its eastern boundary includes a substantial shoreline on Lake Tanganyika, which it shares with Tanzania, Zambia, and Burundi.
Lake Tanganyika is one of Africa’s Great Lakes and is among the world’s deepest and oldest freshwater lakes. It drains northward through the Lukuga River into the Congo River system. The lake’s western shore forms part of the DRC’s eastern region.
Tanzania has the largest share of Lake Tanganyika’s shoreline in some geographic descriptions, but it is not the largest bordering country by national area. The DRC is also Africa’s second-largest country by area after Algeria.
