Germany is the country where SAP, the enterprise-software company frequently ranked among Europe's largest by market value, is headquartered.
SAP's headquarters are in Walldorf, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Five former IBM employees founded the company in 1972 under the name Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung, later shortened to SAP.
SAP became a global leader in enterprise resource planning software. Its systems help organizations manage areas such as finance, procurement, manufacturing, supply chains, human resources, and sales. The company has increasingly moved customers toward cloud-based products, including SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
SAP is sometimes confused with the countries where it operates major offices or data centers. Its international business is extensive, but its corporate headquarters remain in Germany. The company is also a major constituent of Germany's DAX stock index.
