Egypt is home to the ancient pyramids of Giza.
The Giza pyramid complex stands on the Giza Plateau west of Cairo. Its three principal pyramids were built during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty, around the 26th century BCE, as monumental tombs for Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.
The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for Khufu and was the tallest human-made structure for thousands of years. It is the only surviving monument of the traditional Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The pyramids are sometimes mistakenly attributed to later Egyptian rulers, but their construction belongs to the Old Kingdom period.
