Which country is home to Al-Ahsa Oasis, one of the world’s largest natural oases?

The story behind the answer

Saudi Arabia is home to Al-Ahsa Oasis, one of the world’s largest natural oases.

Al-Ahsa Oasis lies in eastern Saudi Arabia near the Persian Gulf. It is formed by groundwater emerging through springs and supports extensive date-palm cultivation in an otherwise arid region. The oasis includes farmland, wells, canals, historic settlements, and natural landscapes.

The area has been inhabited since ancient times and is associated with the historic Al-Hasa region. Its water and agricultural resources helped sustain communities and trade routes between the Arabian interior and the Gulf coast.

UNESCO added Al-Ahsa to its World Heritage List in 2018 under the name “Al-Ahsa Oasis, an Evolving Cultural Landscape.” It is sometimes confused with oasis regions in Iraq or Oman, but Al-Ahsa is in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
