The country that hosts the Monaco Grand Prix is Monaco. The race takes place on the Circuit de Monaco, a temporary street circuit laid out through Monte Carlo and La Condamine beside Port Hercules.

The first Monaco Grand Prix was held on 14 April 1929. Antony Noghès helped create the event, which was organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco under the patronage of Prince Louis II. It became part of the Formula One World Championship at the championship's first season in 1950.

Monaco is often confused with Monte Carlo, but Monte Carlo is a district of Monaco, not a separate country. The circuit uses public streets that are transformed with barriers, grandstands and pit facilities before the race and restored afterward.

The event is famous for its narrow track, tight corners, tunnel and limited overtaking. Along with the Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans, a Monaco victory forms part of motorsport's unofficial Triple Crown.
