China has won the most Olympic table tennis medals.
China’s dominance began soon after table tennis entered the Olympic programme at Seoul 1988. Its players have collected medals across men’s and women’s singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team events, building the largest national medal total in Olympic table tennis history.
The country’s success is supported by a deep domestic system, extensive coaching, strong provincial competition and a large pool of elite players. Chinese athletes have frequently filled several positions in the later rounds of Olympic tournaments, although Olympic qualification rules limit how many players one country can enter.
Japan and South Korea are also major Olympic table tennis nations, while Sweden has achieved notable men’s singles success. However, their medal totals remain below China’s overall tally across the Olympic era.
