Which country has Ulaanbaatar as its capital?
Answer
Mongolia
Answer
Mongolia
Mongolia has Ulaanbaatar as its capital and largest city.
Ulaanbaatar lies in north-central Mongolia on the Tuul River, at an elevation of about 1,300 metres. It began as a mobile Buddhist monastic centre in 1639 and changed location several times before settling at its present site in the eighteenth century. The name means “Red Hero.”
The city became Mongolia’s permanent capital in 1778, when it was known as Urga. Its modern name was adopted in 1924 after the Mongolian People’s Republic was established. Ulaanbaatar is the country’s main political, economic, educational, and cultural centre.
Mongolia is a landlocked country between Russia and China. Its capital experiences a famously severe winter climate, with long periods of subzero temperatures. Although much of Mongolia is sparsely populated and associated with steppe nomadism, Ulaanbaatar contains a large share of the country’s population and has expanded rapidly in recent decades.
