Which country has Mount Liamuiga as its highest point?

The story behind the answer

The country whose highest point is Mount Liamuiga is Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Mount Liamuiga is a 1,156-metre stratovolcano forming the northwestern part of Saint Kitts. Because Saint Kitts is one of the two islands in the federation, the mountain is also the country’s highest point. It is additionally the highest peak in the British Leeward Islands.

The mountain was formerly called Mount Misery. It was renamed Mount Liamuiga on September 19, 1983, the date Saint Kitts and Nevis became independent. Liamuiga comes from the Kalinago name for Saint Kitts and is generally translated as “fertile land,” linking the modern landmark to the island’s Indigenous history.

The summit contains a crater about 0.6 miles wide. A shallow crater lake disappeared and later re-formed, while the volcano’s last verified eruptions occurred roughly 1,800 years ago. The slopes rise through farmland and villages into tropical rainforest and cloud forest. Although hikers can approach the summit, the usual trail ends on the western edge of the crater rather than at the absolute highest point.
