Australia had the only Southern Hemisphere venue showing The Odyssey (2026) in IMAX 70mm. The venue was IMAX Melbourne, which was the sole compatible screen south of the Equator when the film was released.
Worldwide, only 41 screens could present the film in IMAX 70mm. Most were concentrated in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, with individual venues also available in Australia, Belgium, France, and the Czech Republic.
The limited distribution reflected the specialized equipment needed for the format. IMAX had to refurbish disused 70mm projectors and train new projectionists to expand access. The film could also be seen in other formats, including digital IMAX, standard 70mm, 35mm, and premium large-format presentations.
