Which country celebrates Eid al-Fitr as Ramazanski bajram?
Answer
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Answer
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrates Eid al-Fitr as Ramazanski bajram.
The Bosnian name literally means “Ramadan Bayram” or “Bayram of Ramadan.” “Bayram” is a Turkish-derived word used across parts of the Balkans for major religious festivals, reflecting the region’s long Ottoman and Islamic cultural history. Bosnian Muslims also commonly call this festival Mali bajram, meaning “Small Bayram.”
Ramazanski bajram begins on the first day of Shawwal, after Ramadan ends. In Bosnia and Herzegovina it is observed as a three-day religious holiday. Worshippers attend the bajram prayer, visit family and friends, give children gifts and serve traditional foods including baklava.
The key distinction is between Ramazanski bajram and Kurban bajram. The first is Eid al-Fitr, associated with the end of fasting; the second is Eid al-Adha, associated with the Feast of the Sacrifice and celebrated later in the Islamic calendar.
