Which Coolio song from Dangerous Minds topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995?

“Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio, featuring L.V., topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995. The song was created for the soundtrack of the film Dangerous Minds, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and it samples the instrumental and vocal foundation of Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song “Pastime Paradise.”

The recording combines Coolio’s rap verses with L.V.’s sung chorus, giving it a darker and more dramatic sound than many contemporary rap hits. It reached No. 1 in the United States and also topped charts in numerous other countries.

“Gangsta’s Paradise” won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1996. It is often confused with Coolio’s earlier single “Fantastic Voyage,” which was also a significant hit but did not become his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1. The song’s association with Dangerous Minds helped make it one of the most recognizable soundtrack singles of the 1990s.
