Which console was the original Forza Horizon released for?

The story behind the answer

The original Forza Horizon was released for the Xbox 360. It launched on October 23, 2012, as Playground Games’ first Forza title and the first open-world game in the franchise.

Unlike the circuit-focused Forza Motorsport games, Horizon places racing inside a fictional music festival set in Colorado. Players can roam between events, challenge traffic, explore off-road areas, and earn popularity through speed and stunts.

A common mix-up is assuming the game launched on Xbox One because later Horizon entries became associated with that console. The original game was an Xbox 360 exclusive, although it later became playable on newer Xbox hardware through backward compatibility. It was never released for PlayStation 3 or Windows.

The game was delisted from the Xbox 360 Marketplace in 2016 after its automotive licenses expired. Its online services were later shut down in August 2023, but the original release remains an important starting point for the Horizon series.
