Nintendo 64 received Japan’s Pocket Monsters Stadium in 1998.
Pocket Monsters Stadium was released only in Japan on August 1, 1998. Developed and published by Nintendo, it brought Pokémon battles into polygonal 3D on the Nintendo 64, using teams connected to the Game Boy Pokémon games.
The title is easy to confuse with the internationally released Pokémon Stadium. In Japan, Pocket Monsters Stadium was the earlier, Japan-only entry. The later game known internationally as Pokémon Stadium was released in Japan in 1999 and reached Western regions in 2000.
Development was initially associated with the Nintendo 64DD, but the finished game appeared on a standard Nintendo 64 cartridge. Its release helped demonstrate how Pokémon could move from handheld role-playing games into console battles, even though the first Stadium version never received an official release outside Japan.
