Georg Solti holds the record for the most Grammy Awards won by an individual, with 31 victories.
The Hungarian-British conductor earned his awards primarily for recordings of classical repertoire, especially opera and orchestral works. His long association with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra produced many acclaimed recordings, including a landmark studio recording of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.”
Solti’s total is an individual record, so it should not be confused with records for groups, women, or a single ceremony. Quincy Jones and John Williams are also among the most decorated figures in Grammy history, but neither has surpassed Solti’s overall total.
Solti also received the Recording Academy’s Trustees Award in 1967 and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. He remained one of the central recording artists in classical Grammy history until his death in 1997.
