Answer
IBM's personal computer division
Answer
IBM's personal computer division
Lenovo acquired IBM’s personal computer division in 2005 for about $1.75 billion.
The transaction was announced in December 2004 and completed in May 2005. It made Lenovo the world’s third-largest personal-computer maker at the time and gave the Chinese company access to IBM’s global sales network, technology, and corporate customers.
Lenovo also obtained the right to use the IBM brand on Think products for a limited period. The ThinkPad laptop line, famous for its business-focused design and distinctive keyboard, became a central part of Lenovo’s product portfolio.
The deal did not transfer all of IBM’s hardware operations. IBM retained businesses such as servers and storage, which Lenovo later pursued separately through other transactions. IBM eventually exited the personal-computer market while continuing to focus more heavily on software and services.
