Which composer wrote the musical score for Pixar's Cars 2?

Michael Giacchino composed the musical score for Pixar's Cars 2.

Giacchino's score supports the sequel's international spy-adventure style, combining orchestral action writing with music suited to the film's world-traveling races and espionage scenes. The score helps distinguish Cars 2 from the more road-trip and small-town tone of the original Cars.

Giacchino was already closely associated with Pixar before Cars 2. He composed The Incredibles and Ratatouille, and later wrote scores for several other major film projects. His work often blends energetic action music with character-focused themes.

The composer is commonly confused with Randy Newman, who wrote songs and score material for the original Cars, including its Oscar-nominated song “Our Town.” Thomas Newman, another prominent film composer, scored films such as Finding Nemo and WALL-E.
