Which composer created the iconic Star Wars score?

The story behind the answer

The composer who created the iconic Star Wars score is John Williams.

Williams composed and conducted the music for the original 1977 film, creating themes that became closely associated with the Star Wars universe. The score includes the bold Main Title, Princess Leia’s Theme, and music accompanying characters and settings across the saga. The London Symphony Orchestra performed the original recording.

The score was recorded in England during March 1977 and earned Williams the Academy Award for Best Original Score. The soundtrack also received major recognition from the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Grammys. In 2005, the American Film Institute named it the greatest American film score.

Danny Elfman, James Horner, and Hans Zimmer are all prominent film composers, but they did not create the original Star Wars score. Williams continued composing music for later Star Wars films, including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the sequel trilogy. His collaboration with George Lucas helped define the series’ grand orchestral sound.
