Berkshire Hathaway’s Class A shares trade under the ticker symbol BRK.A on the New York Stock Exchange.
Berkshire Hathaway is a diversified holding company led for decades by investor Warren Buffett. Its businesses include insurance, rail transportation, energy, manufacturing, retail, and investments in publicly traded companies.
The Class A shares are famous for their extremely high per-share price. Berkshire also offers Class B shares, traded under BRK.B, which were created in 1996 to make ownership more accessible to smaller investors. Class A and Class B shares represent the same company but have different voting rights and economic proportions.
Berkshire’s market capitalization places it among the largest publicly traded companies in the United States. It is not the same company as BlackRock, the asset manager, even though both names are associated with major financial-market valuations.
