NVIDIA’s 2024 market-cap surge made it the world’s most valuable semiconductor company.
NVIDIA rose dramatically in 2024 as investors anticipated strong demand for its graphics processors and data-center systems used in artificial-intelligence computing. Its market capitalization surpassed those of other major semiconductor companies, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Broadcom, during the year.
NVIDIA began as a graphics-chip specialist. Its CUDA software platform later made its processors useful for general-purpose parallel computing, helping the company become a major supplier for machine-learning workloads.
The company’s stock split on a ten-for-one basis in June 2024. A stock split changes the number of shares and the price per share but does not, by itself, change market capitalization. NVIDIA’s leadership in the ranking remained sensitive to share-price movements and technology-sector expectations.
