Saudi Aramco’s 2019 listing gave the company an initial market value of about $1.9 trillion.
Saudi Aramco priced its initial public offering at 32 Saudi riyals per share in December 2019. Based on the offering price and the company’s total shares, the implied valuation was approximately $1.9 trillion, placing it immediately among the world’s largest listed companies.
The offering sold only a small percentage of the company, while the Saudi government retained overwhelming ownership. This is an important distinction: a company can have a very large market capitalization even when only a limited portion of its shares is available for public trading.
Saudi Aramco’s business is centered on oil exploration, production, refining, and chemicals. Its market value is therefore influenced by oil prices, production expectations, energy-transition concerns, and the company’s substantial reserves. The IPO remains one of the most significant events in global equity markets.
