Which company’s 2015 merger with Kraft created the food company Kraft Heinz?

The story behind the answer

The H.J. Heinz Company merged with Kraft Foods Group in 2015 to create The Kraft Heinz Company.

The merger was completed on July 2, 2015, bringing together two major packaged-food businesses. Heinz had long been associated with ketchup and other grocery products, while Kraft Foods Group owned brands such as Kraft, Oscar Mayer, and Philadelphia.

The transaction was backed by 3G Capital and Berkshire Hathaway, which had acquired Heinz in 2013. The new company became one of the world’s largest food and beverage businesses by sales and market value. Its portfolio includes products sold across many countries.

Kraft Heinz is sometimes confused with Mondelez International. Mondelez was created in 2012 when Kraft Foods split its global snack business from its North American grocery operations. Kraft Heinz instead resulted from the combination of Heinz with Kraft Foods Group, the North American grocery company.
