Apple was the world’s most valuable publicly traded company by market capitalization at the end of 2022.
Its position reflected the scale of the iPhone business, the profitability of its ecosystem, and investor confidence in recurring services revenue. Apple’s market value remained higher than that of other major global companies despite a difficult year for technology stocks.
The ranking is a point-in-time comparison, not a permanent title. Market capitalization changes whenever share prices move, so a company can lead at year-end and lose the position months or even days later. It also differs from rankings based on revenue, employees, assets, or brand value.
Apple was not the only company near the top. Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, and Saudi Aramco were also among the world’s largest listed businesses, but their relative positions varied with stock prices and currency effects.
