Saudi Aramco was the first company to surpass US$1 trillion in market capitalization on the Saudi Stock Exchange. The company achieved the milestone shortly after its December 2019 listing, when its shares rose on Tadawul.
The IPO offered a portion of the state-owned energy producer to public investors while the Saudi government retained overwhelming control. Saudi Aramco’s listing connected one of the world’s largest oil businesses to a domestic stock market that had become increasingly important in the region.
Saudi Aramco’s market capitalization was supported by its hydrocarbon reserves, production scale, integrated refining operations, and role in Saudi Arabia’s economy. Oil prices and expectations about future energy demand also affected its share value.
The company later became associated with the larger US$2 trillion milestone, reached briefly during its second trading day. That higher figure should not be confused with the earlier US$1 trillion threshold, which was the first major valuation milestone after the IPO.
