Saudi Aramco was the first company in the Middle East to surpass US$1 trillion in market capitalization.
Saudi Aramco crossed the threshold shortly after its December 2019 initial public offering on the Saudi Stock Exchange. The offering made the company the largest publicly listed business in the region and gave international investors a direct way to buy shares in a major Saudi energy producer.
The company’s valuation reflected its oil reserves, production scale, and importance to Saudi Arabia. The listing was also part of the country’s Vision 2030 economic strategy, which seeks to diversify the economy and develop financial markets alongside the traditional oil sector.
Saudi Aramco’s record is sometimes mixed up with Apple’s later two-trillion-dollar milestone. Apple was the first company to reach two trillion dollars, whereas Saudi Aramco was the company that established the Middle East’s one-trillion-dollar public-market milestone. Both figures refer to market capitalization, not annual sales.
