Apple was the first company to reach a US$1 trillion market capitalization using publicly traded shares, in 2018.
Apple crossed the trillion-dollar mark on 2 August 2018, when its stock price rose enough for the value of all outstanding shares to exceed $1 trillion. This was a landmark for a public corporation and followed years of iPhone-driven growth plus expanding services revenue.
The figure is a market-capitalization calculation, not the amount of money in Apple’s bank accounts. It also differs from enterprise value, which incorporates debt and cash. Apple’s earlier products, including the Macintosh and iPod, built the brand, while the iPhone launched in 2007 became the company’s central growth engine.
