Microsoft was the first company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization in 2024, after Apple and before Nvidia.
Microsoft crossed the $3 trillion mark during trading on January 24, 2024. Its rise reflected strong investor demand for cloud computing, enterprise software, and the company’s expanding role in artificial intelligence through products and partnerships.
The milestone came after Microsoft had already become one of the world’s largest companies by market value. Its Azure cloud platform, Office subscription products, Windows ecosystem, and ownership of LinkedIn and GitHub gave investors several major sources of recurring revenue.
Microsoft’s market-cap achievement should not be confused with becoming the first company ever at $3 trillion: Apple reached that threshold earlier. Nvidia later crossed $3 trillion in June 2024 as demand for artificial-intelligence computing accelerated.
