Apple was the first company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization, doing so in January 2022.
Apple briefly crossed the $3 trillion threshold during trading on January 3, 2022, as its share price reached the level needed for that valuation. The company had passed $2 trillion less than two years earlier.
Apple’s growth was supported by the global popularity of the iPhone, the expansion of services, and a broad hardware portfolio that included Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, and AirPods. Investors also valued the company’s large installed customer base and recurring ecosystem revenue.
A market-cap milestone can be temporary because it depends on a live share price. Apple’s shares moved below and above the threshold as trading continued, but the intraday crossing established the company as the first to reach that headline valuation. The milestone does not mean Apple had $3 trillion in cash or that every part of the business was independently worth that amount.
