Saudi Aramco was the first company based outside the United States to reach a $2 trillion market capitalization.
The Saudi Arabian oil company reached the milestone shortly after its December 2019 listing on the Saudi Exchange. Its initial public offering was the largest in history at the time, and the company’s enormous oil reserves and production capacity drove intense investor interest.
Saudi Aramco’s shares are listed primarily in Riyadh, unlike many global technology giants whose principal listings are in the United States. Its valuation depends heavily on oil prices, production expectations, and the strategic importance of Saudi Arabia’s energy sector.
Market capitalization can be compared across countries, but currencies and listing rules must be converted and interpreted consistently. The $2 trillion figure therefore represents a translated market value, not a separate pile of cash.
