TSMC was the first company founded in Taiwan to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company crossed the milestone in July 2024 as demand for advanced chips increased. TSMC is the world’s leading dedicated semiconductor foundry, manufacturing processors designed by companies such as Nvidia, Apple, and AMD.
Unlike an integrated chipmaker that designs and manufactures its own branded processors, TSMC primarily produces chips for customers. Its leadership in advanced manufacturing processes made it central to the expansion of artificial intelligence, smartphones, and high-performance computing.
The company was founded in 1987 by Morris Chang. Its principal listing is in Taiwan, while American depositary receipts trade in the United States. The valuation milestone depended on both TSMC’s share price and the exchange rate used for comparison.
