TSMC was the first company to exceed a $1 trillion market capitalization using a stock listing in Taiwan.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, commonly called TSMC, passed the $1 trillion mark in 2024 as demand for advanced chips pushed its share price higher. Its primary listing is on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and it also has American depositary receipts traded in the United States.
TSMC pioneered the dedicated semiconductor foundry model. Instead of selling mostly its own branded chips, it manufactures designs created by customers such as Apple, Nvidia, and other technology companies. Its advanced manufacturing processes are crucial to processors used in smartphones, data centers, and artificial-intelligence systems.
The company is sometimes confused with chip designers such as Nvidia. Nvidia designs major processors, while TSMC primarily manufactures chips for customers under contract.
