Nvidia was the first semiconductor designer to exceed a US$3 trillion market capitalization.
Nvidia passed US$3 trillion in June 2024 as investors responded to explosive demand for its graphics processors and data-center accelerators. Those chips became central to training and running artificial-intelligence systems.
Nvidia designs processors and platforms but generally relies on outside foundries, especially Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, to manufacture its leading-edge chips. That business model distinguishes Nvidia from integrated manufacturers such as Intel.
The valuation surge followed years of development in graphics processing and CUDA software. It should not be confused with Nvidia’s stock split history, which changes the number of shares but not the company’s total market value by itself.
