TSMC was the first publicly traded business founded in Taiwan to surpass a $1 trillion market capitalization. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company crossed that threshold in July 2024 as demand for advanced chips and artificial-intelligence hardware lifted its share price.
Founded in 1987, TSMC pioneered the dedicated semiconductor foundry model. Instead of primarily selling chips under its own consumer brand, it manufactures designs created by customers. Its clients include major technology companies that rely on TSMC for leading-edge processors and other integrated circuits.
TSMC’s market value is closely linked to chip demand, manufacturing technology, capacity expansion, and expectations for future computing growth. It is frequently confused with Samsung Electronics, which also manufactures advanced semiconductors but is a South Korean conglomerate with substantial consumer-electronics and smartphone businesses.
