Which company was the first public company to reach a $1 trillion market cap in the Middle East?

The story behind the answer

Saudi Aramco was the first public company in the Middle East to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization.

The milestone followed Saudi Aramco’s December 2019 listing on the Saudi Stock Exchange. The IPO made a portion of the state-owned energy company publicly tradable and immediately established it as one of the world’s most valuable listed businesses.

Saudi Aramco’s importance comes from its enormous oil reserves, high production capacity, and extensive downstream operations. It is also a central contributor to Saudi government revenue, although the company has increasingly invested in refining, petrochemicals, natural gas, and lower-carbon technologies.

The company’s listing was part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic strategy, which seeks to diversify the kingdom beyond oil and develop its capital markets. The public float remained a minority stake, so the quoted market capitalization and the total value of the entire company should not be confused.
