Alphabet was the first major technology firm to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization in 2020.
Alphabet crossed the threshold in January 2020 as its share price rose on investor confidence in Google’s advertising business and the company’s expanding cloud, hardware, and other ventures. Alphabet is the parent company created in 2015 to organize Google and several related businesses.
Google Search and online advertising remain Alphabet’s central sources of revenue. YouTube, Google Cloud, Android, and subscription products add other important parts to the company’s global technology platform.
Alphabet’s milestone is separate from Apple’s earlier $1 trillion record. Different companies can reach the same valuation at different dates, and a market cap is not a ranking based only on revenue or profit. It changes whenever the share price and share count change.
